Luminous flux (lm, Lumen)

Lumen is the indication of the entire light achievement of a shining object, independently of its shining direction. The light-current is theunit of powerin the photometric system.

Luminous intensity (cd, mcd)

Luminous intensity is the radiating power of a source of light in a particular direction, weighted with the spectral sensitivity of the eye. Measuring luminous intensity in Candela (engl. Candel) over the entire solid angle in Sterad (SR), one receives the light-current in lumens (lm). 1cd=12,566lm und cd = lm:sr

Illuminance Lux (lx=lu:m²)


One lux corresponds to the luminous intensity, which a candle produces at a distance of one meter. If a light-current (1 lumen) evenly meets a surface of 1m² , then this corresponds to a illuminanc of 1Lux.
1 lx = 1 lm/m2
The illuminance is a pure receiver size and serves the unit for brightness.

The Luminance (L) of a light source indicates,= which luminous intensity (cd) from a certain surface (A in m²) is radiated, into the surrounding area. It is a measure, how brightly we feel a certain light source ore how this light source dazzle us.

The color temperature is indicated in degrees of Kelvin (°K) and is of one of the most important factors for the LED buyer to found out, with which light its LEDS in the future will illuminate its living room, working place or garden.

Pre-resistor


An LED possesses nearly no internal resistance and if current is put on, there will be a short-circuit because unlimited current would flow through. In order to let an LED shine "correctly" and for long time, one must limit thus current flow with a resistance.
